ground we stand on
If we have lost our way as keepers of the land, there may be lessons to glean from a culture 1000s of years old. We turn to two recent events shedding light on our relationship with our Aboriginal and First Nations communities.
Making Treaty 7 symposium was a Calgary 2012 initiative that will result in a performed re-enactment of the original 1877 treaty signing. Michael Green and elder Narcisse Blood share the process and context around the treaty.
We also head to Edmonton for an inside peek at the First Nations Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Communities. Shafraaz Kaba and Lisa Baroldi share what’s behind an urban Aboriginal Quarter, and Bill Semple describes research that the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation has conducted leading to a variety of super energy-efficient structures in northern Canada. Also mentioned: the Anaktuvuk Pass Prototype Home.
